It has been a pleasure to get to know pianist and singer Jackie Jocko & drummer Joe Peters, Buffalo's venerable lounge and performing act. I was asked to take a look at their collection and to submit a proposal to begin processing it. The history of the band is filled with interesting stories. They first met in 1948 at The Everglades on Hertel Ave and started performing together in 1950, with their first gig at Carl's Lounge on Jefferson near Genesee Ave. They recorded their first hit "Lover, Come Back to Me" in 1952 while entertaining the crowds at a 6 week performance run at Birdland Jazz Club in NYC. Throughout their career spanning more than 60 years, they have performed in Buffalo, NYC, Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Sahara in Las Vegas, Reno, Newport Beach California, Seattle, Hawaii, Aruba and hundreds of other clubs all over the country. I look forward to working with them more closely to begin preserving their collection to make it available to users, researchers and others interested in a bit of Buffalo musical history.
